New at GTM: Force Calibraition Machine FCM RT – Calibration with 0.1% measurement uncertainty
What makes the FCM RT force calibration machine special?
The FCM RT combines a highly rigid, precisely aligned testing machine frame with reference force transducers that are integrated into the system. The result is a purely axial force flow that reduces setup errors and remanence effects and enables reproducible calibration results. The system is controlled using proven Beckhoff components and the browser-based WebForceManager - you can start calibration programs with a single mouse click, and processes run fully automatically.
Who is the FCM RT force calibration machine intended for?
The force calibration machine was developed for a broad target audience:
- Accredited and in-house calibration laboratories that wish to perform calibrations internally and on a scheduled basis
- Quality assurance and production departments with high-volume or recurring calibrations
- Manufacturers of force transducers and load cells who combine reference tests, end-of-line inspections, and internal traceability
These various applications are made possible by the WebForceManager, an easy-to-understand, intuitive software solution focused on calibration applications. Menu-driven input screens and custom commands allow for the execution of automated calibration sequences tailored to specific needs, as well as the storage of calibration results.
Highlights at a Glance
- Precision in everyday use: Relative expanded measurement uncertainty ≤ 0.1% (k = 2) over the defined measurement range
- Stable and reproducible: Production-proven, highly rigid frame for purely axial force transmission
- Safe and efficient: Fixed reference sensors reduce setup times and operator errors
- Fully automated calibration procedures: Beckhoff controller and WebForceManager for ISO 376, ASTM E74, DKD-R 3-3
- Open to your measurement chain: Compatible with common measurement amplifiers
- Suitable for industrial use: Virtually maintenance-free mechanics, lead screw-driven crosshead, designed for continuous operation
- Configurable to fit your needs: Nominal frame loads of 20, 50, 100, and 250 kN; single- or three-range variants to match the measurement profile
- On-site traceability: Upon request, GTM offers on-site calibration in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025—without disassembly or transport, and unique in Germany
Two variants for different profiles
- Single-range variant: Stable, economical, low-maintenance—ideal for high volumes of identical transducers in production
- Three-range variant: Flexible and precise over a wide force range—ideal for calibration laboratories and quality assurance with variable test specimens
Both variants use the same basic mechanics, reference sensors, and control system. You simply select the configuration that matches your measurement profile and target uncertainty.
Real-world experience at GTM
Since 2019, two versions of the FCM RT force calibration machine have been in use at GTM—including for automated ISO 376 calibrations and time-consuming overnight measurement runs. In practice, approximately two complete ISO 376 calibrations per day (tension and compression) are realistic. This frees up capacity for additional, more demanding tasks.
